Circuit of Madring - Madrid
History and Construction
- Origin: Madrid previously hosted F1 around 40 years ago at Jarama, 30 km north of the city. The new Madring circuit brings the race back to the Spanish capital for the first time since then.
- Location: The circuit is situated at IFEMA Madrid, just 5 minutes from Barajas airport and well connected by Metro (Line 8), Cercanías train (C1 to Valdebebas), and multiple bus lines.
- Development: Built on a mix of public roads and private land near the IFEMA fairgrounds, Madring combines the feel of a street circuit with a permanent setup, similar in concept to the Miami International Autodrome.
- Purpose: Designed to host Formula 1 alongside F2 and F3 races, plus concerts, fan zones, and gastronomy areas the event is meant to extend well beyond the track itself.
- Name: "Madring" combines "Madrid" with "ring," the term used for circuits in motorsport. Short, global, no translation needed.
Design and Features
- Layout: The circuit measures 5.416 km with 22 corners of varied nature and straights where cars can reach over 340 km/h.
- Technicality: The mix of high-speed sections and tight technical corners tests both mechanical grip and aerodynamic balance across the full lap.
- Elevation: Expect dramatic elevation changes throughout the lap, adding an extra layer of difficulty for drivers and engineers.
- La Monumental: Turn 12 is the standout feature a semicircular banked corner stretching half a kilometre with 24% banking, reportedly the longest banked turn on the entire F1 calendar.
- Versatility: Using both public roads and private land, the circuit blends street-circuit atmosphere with a permanent setup. Capacity for 45,000 spectators at the iconic Turn 12 alone.
