Las Vegas Strip Circuit
History and Construction
- The circuit was designed by Carsten Tilke, the son of renowned track architect Hermann Tilke.
- A $240 million investment was made to purchase a 39-acre plot of land to build a permanent pit and paddock facility.
- The first Formula 1 race on the Las Vegas Strip Circuit was scheduled for November 18, 2023, although it had previously competed in Las Vegas in the 1980s.
- The construction of the circuit, which uses public roads and is primarily a temporary layout, presented a huge logistical challenge.
- To ensure safety and adequate road grip, most of the track, including the iconic "Strip," was completely resurfaced.
Design and Features
- The circuit is 6.201 kilometers long, with a total of 17 corners.
- The circuit has two long straights, including the 1.92-kilometer "Strip" section, which reaches speeds of up to 340 km/h.
- The circuit layout has an unusual shape, with a section surrounding the Sphere and the famous "Strip" section.
- With a permanent pit lane and paddock, most of the track is constructed from public streets in the city of Las Vegas.
- Night racing takes advantage of the city's artificial lighting and lower track temperatures.
