Franco Colapinto made his F1 debut with Williams in 2024, replacing Logan Sargeant mid-season. He impressed immediately, scoring points in just his second race. In 2025 he joined Alpine, first as reserve before earning a race seat from Imola onward.

Franco Colapinto is an Argentine driver who has achieved widespread recognition in international motorsports for his talent and potential in Formula 1. He began his career in karting, where he excelled both nationally and internationally from a very young age. He made the leap to single-seater racing in 2018 in the Spanish Formula 4, a category in which he won his first season. He subsequently competed in the Euroformula Open and in championships such as the Toyota Racing Series of New Zealand, where he gained experience and achieved important podium finishes. In 2020, he competed in the Formula Renault Eurocup with MP Motorsport, where he earned victories and finished third in the championship. In 2021 and 2022, he competed in the European Formula Regional and Formula 3, achieving outstanding performances, pole positions, and podium finishes.

In 2023, Colapinto competed in his second season in FIA Formula 3 with the MP Motorsport team, where he won races and finished fourth in the championship, cementing his status as an emerging talent. Thanks to these results, Colapinto joined the Williams Racing driver academy, bringing him closer to his Formula 1 dream. In 2024, he made the leap to Formula 2 with the MP Motorsport team, demonstrating competitiveness from the outset. His performance has captured the attention of the media and teams, reinforcing his profile as a candidate to become the next Argentine to reach F1. 2024

Franco Colapinto made his Formula 1 debut in September 2024, replacing Logan Sargeant at Williams from the Italian Grand Prix onward. He finished 12th on debut, immediately standing out for his ability to overtake and defend track positions. Across nine Grands Prix, he scored five points, with his best result being an eighth place at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. At the Las Vegas Grand Prix, he also set the fastest top speed of the 2024 season at 356.4 km/h, surpassing drivers such as Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. After losing the Williams seat to Carlos Sainz for 2025, he joined Alpine as test and reserve driver.

2025

Colapinto arrived at Alpine as reserve driver after losing his Williams seat to Carlos Sainz, but fate moved faster than anyone expected: after just six races, Flavio Briatore dropped Jack Doohan following a high-speed crash at Suzuka, and the Argentine was thrown into a race seat from Imola onward. The problem was that he inherited a car Alpine had already quietly given up on, with the team shifting all its development focus to 2026 while the A525 fell further behind the field with every passing race. He finished the season with zero points and was outqualified by Gasly 17-5, numbers that look bad on paper but don't tell the whole story: at times he matched his far more experienced teammate in race pace, and he did enough to keep Briatore — not exactly a forgiving boss — convinced that his seat was worth holding onto. Colapinto himself was honest about it: "it's sometimes tricky to keep the motivation," he said, racing a car that simply couldn't score. He'll be back at Alpine for a full season in 2026, which is ultimately the only result that really mattered this year.

2026

Given a full season alongside Pierre Gasly, Colapinto finally had a car that could fight in the midfield after two years of scraps and leftovers. He was slow to get going, with early results in Australia, Japan and Monaco yielding nothing, but the improvement was clear once the car started clicking: sixth at Canada and seventh at Miami were his best results, either side of a run of smaller points finishes in China, Barcelona-Catalunya, Great Britain and Belgium. He added more points at Monza in Italy, then matched his Miami result with seventh at the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid. Through fourteen rounds he sits 12th in the championship with 27 points — already comfortably his best points tally in a single F1 season, and proof that Alpine's decision to keep faith with him through a difficult 2025 was the right one.
