Hungaroring Circuit

History and Construction

The circuit was built in a record time of just eight months and opened on March 24, 1986.
The construction of the Hungaroring was the result of a political agreement between Formula 1 and the Hungarian government.
The first race on the circuit was held on August 10, 1986. The GP was a massive success, with over 200,000 spectators.
Improvements included widening the track to create a longer finishing straight, which allowed for more overtaking at Turn 1.
The circuit is located in a natural depression in the terrain. This "valley" design offers spectators exceptional views.

Design and Features

The Hungaroring is known as one of the slowest and twistiest circuits on the calendar, comparable to a full-scale karting track.
The circuit has been one of the most difficult for overtaking. The lack of long straights and the nature of the tracking corners make it difficult for cars to follow each other closely.
Due to the twisty nature of the layout, F1 teams configure their cars to generate maximum downforce.
The cars spend most of their time at low speeds, which reduces airflow and makes it one of the hottest circuits for engines, gearboxes, and brakes.
The circuit is rarely used outside of the Hungarian Grand Prix. This means the track is often dusty and "green."
