Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton was born on January 7, 1985 in Hertfordshire, England, not far from the capital. From his childhood he showed great interest in motor racing, practicing karting from a very young age, managing to attract the attention of Ron Dennis, who incorporated him into the McLaren young driver program in 1998, providing economic solidity to his training in promotion categories. With a previous successful career, Hamilton would see his dream of debuting in Formula 1 come true in 2007, after winning the GP2 Series. The Briton would star in an unusual movement, which is to land directly in one of the most renowned teams in the category; McLaren. The bet almost paid off for Ron Dennis, who touched the driver's title after many years, and who also would have been the youngest champion, the rookie champion, and the first black driver to achieve it.
However, a failure in the last race of the season left the title in the hands of Kimi Raikkonen. Lewis would make up for it the following year, achieving the title of world champion in an agonizing final with Felipe Massa. After several tug of war with McLaren, Hamilton decided to end his stage with the British team, signing in 2013 for Mercedes. In 2014, with the change in regulations, a stage dominated by Mercedes would begin in which Hamilton has increased his world championship titles to seven and has broken the records for podiums, victories and pole positions to unthinkable numbers. At the end of 2020, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom knighted the pilot, who became known as Sir Lewis Hamilton.
Lewis Hamilton started his sports career in English karting, a discipline he reached thanks to the efforts of his father, who financed his early participation by accumulating overtime as a London Underground worker. Over the years, Lewis honed his talent behind the wheel to win his first title in the Cadet category of the Super One British, a competition developed by various clubs and sports associations in the country. He was barely 10 years old. The following year he won the competition created to train future karting talents, the McLaren Mercedes Champions of the Future series, as well as winning the Kart Masters title organized by Sky TV, the Five Nation Champion and the STP Karting Championship. In 1997, Hamilton repeated the title in the McLaren Mercedes Champions of the Future Series, also winning the Super One British Series in the Junior category. At the year-end award ceremony he approached Ron Dennis to announce that he wanted to drive for McLaren. The determination of the little London driver caught the attention of Dennis, who from then on became his great sporting godfather. Included in McLaren's Young Driver Training Program, Hamilton finished second in the Future Champions championship and fourth in the Italian Open Championship, all within the Junior division.
In 1999 he combined the ICA (Intercontinental A) category, winning the Industry trophy, with Junior, where he was proclaimed runner-up in the Open Masters. In his last year in karting, Hamilton made the leap to Formula A (called KF1 since 2007), proclaiming himself absolute Italian champion with the MBM team, dominating all the races and adding victory in its European division and in the Bercy Masters. The good results obtained in karting opened the doors of single-seaters for him in 2001, the year in which he debuted in the British Formula Renault Winter Series, which he finished in fifth place in. The following year, with his lucky number 3 attached to his car, he took third place in Formula Renault driving for the Manor Mostorsport team, totaling 3 victories, 3 pole positions, 3 fastest laps and 28 points. In addition, Hamilton finished the Eurocup in fifth place with a win and two more appearances on the podium, despite only contesting four races. In 2003 he graduated to Formula Renault by becoming British champion with an impressive resume: 10 wins, 11 pole positions and 9 fastest laps for a total of 419 points.. After briefly testing the F-3 in two rounds of the British series in 2003, the following year, Hamilton made the leap to the F-3 Euro Series, where he was fifth with 68 points, behind Nico Rosberg. Along the way there were five podium finishes and a win at the spectacular Norisring circuit.
In addition, he won the first Persian Gulf Superprix, coming from far behind. The title came the following year, where the Hamilton-ASM combination swept. The Englishman raised the gimp four races from the end of the championship, adding 161 points, equivalent to an impressive 15 victories, 13 pole positions and 10 fastest laps. Along the way there were also triumphs in the Zandvoort Masters, in Monaco and in Pau. Lewis did not run, however, in Macao, a test discarded by Ron Dennis due to his toughness. His victory in the F-3 Euro Series opened the doors of GP2 for him, a contest that he emphatically dominated in his debut year. The Briton, who drove for ART, won five races and added nine other podium finishes to total 114 points, relegating Nelson Piquet Jr to second place by 12 points. During the season there were constant references to his probable jump to F-1 with McLaren, that the Englishman should "play" with the team's tester, Pedro Martínez de la Rosa. However, this long-awaited face-to-face never took place, and Ron Dennis opted for the fast lane, giving him the second midfielder.
